About

I’m a director, writer and creative director working across branded content, commercials, documentaries and factual television.

I began directing at leading design and experiential agency Imagination where I wrote and directed brand films and commercials for the likes of Ford, BT, Coca -Cola, Ericsson and Disney. I later returned there as creative director of the film department.

I spent a few years directing performance and comedy led TV commercials for Park Village, before forming my own film content agency, Wilder named after my favourite director Billy Wilder. I wanted to create a film company that offered an alternative in the corporate film market with films that used entertainment and comedy more to connect with audiences. We won more than 40 international awards for clients such as Cancer Research UK, Tesco, Thomas Cook and the Premier League. We also played a major part in helping London win the 2012 Olympics creating 3 films for the final Singapore presentation. By 2012 we were ranked in the top 10 UK corporate film companies by Televisual magazine.

I founded Buddy in 2013 where we became renowned for our emotive mini sporting documentaries for the likes of the Barclays Premier league and Bridgestone as well as award winning content and brand films for clients such as the Co-op, Google, Land Rover Jaguar, KPMG and TUI. Outside of Buddy I have directed documentaries and factual television for ITV and Sky, including a 60 minute documentary about a transgender couple “Our Gender Swap Wedding” described by the Independent as “an educational, insightful and often moving window into the lives of two people” During this period I was a consultant for the Paris and Tokyo Olympic bids, helping them devise and produce the films for their winning bids. Throughout I’ve worked with my writing buddy Jim North on creating our own projects including the BAFTA longlisted Waiting for Conkers and Ripple, winner of 11 International Festival awards including best comedy at the Oscar qualifying LA Shortsfest.

This varied career means I have a diverse portfolio of work ranging from emotive and visual brand work, authentic and inspiring documentaries, subtle performance and comedy pieces and much more.

I love to get under the skin of any brief and deliver films that really connect with people in a genuine, heartfelt way with warmth and humanity. I pride myself on being collaborative and creating a relaxed positive environment at every stage of the production. From major celebrities to people who've never been on camera before, I get the best out of people on screen. I know the challenges of a budget conscious marketplace and strive to work in a simple way that avoids waste and delivers high quality films at an affordable price. As such I usually edit my own work too. If you think any of these skills and experience could be relevant to you, please do get in touch. paulrgowers@gmail.com
